Campus Security warns of suspect arrested for robbery and indecent exposure
On Monday, Dec. 2, Director of Campus Security Matthew Brinkman issued a statement to faculty and students with details of two recent incidents reported by female Lee students.
“We have been working with the Cleveland Police Department (CPD) to solve two cases involving two of our female students,” Brinkman stated. “One incident involving the charge of robbery occurred off campus at Burrito Xpress, and the other one involving indecent exposure took place on our campus.”
The incident concerning a female student being attacked at Burrito Xpress on Inman Street occurred on Nov. 19. CPD posted about the incident on Facebook, asking locals for any information on the pair of suspects.
“The female stated she was walking in the parking lot when a silver sedan occupied by two white males approached her,” said CPD’s post. “She stated both males exited the vehicle and one of them grabbed her wrist while the other grabbed her keys. During the struggle, the female began to tell them that her father was in the restaurant. The two males then let her go and fled the area.”
In a separate incident that occurred a week earlier, a female student filed a police report with CPD. She stated a man drove up next to her in the School of Business parking lot, proceeded to expose himself and blocked her car from leaving as she called the police.
Shortly after the incident, the victim sent a message to other students, encouraging them to stay aware of their surroundings and to look out for the suspect. A screenshot of the message quickly circulated around campus in an effort to raise awareness of the incident.
According to Brinkman’s email, Cleveland resident Justin Posey has been identified as a suspect in both incidents. Posey was arrested on both Nov. 21 and Nov. 22 and has since been released on bond. He is scheduled for a hearing in court on Tuesday morning.
“In light of the two incidents and his being out of jail, we are making the campus community aware of his identity and his most recent vehicle,” Brinkman stated.
Posey was last seen driving a silver, 4-door Honda sedan with a temporary Tennessee tag.
“We continue to pray for the two female students involved in the incidents and work with local authorities to bring Posey to justice,” Brinkman stated. “While we do not foresee any immediate threat, we feel that it is prudent to inform you and ask for your assistance in notifying us Campus Security (423.303.4444) or CPD (911) if you see him or his vehicle on campus.”
