Brief: Men’s soccer defeats Delta State in overtime
The men’s soccer team defeated Delta State in an overtime thriller on Sunday. After trailing in the first half, the Flames returned to finish off Delta State 3-2.
The Flames headed to the locker room down by a goal at halftime. But in the 49th minute, Tristan Lyle scored a goal to tie it up.
“We were kind of disappointed with our first half performance,” said Lyle. “We wanted to respond well after the coach’s halftime speech.”
Just a few minutes later, Jared Mcwhorter followed with a goal of his own, making the score 2-1. With less than a minute left in the game, Delta State evened the score and sent the game into overtime.
Lee took charge in overtime, scoring within the first minute. Ronaldo McDonald scored on a cross from Tanner Carter just 30 seconds into overtime. The Flames held their 3-2 lead until final time, claiming a victory over Delta State.
The team’s next game is against the University of West Florida on Friday, October 11.
