Three Things for August 30
1. Early Morning Surprise
Students in the Communications building received a shock early Thursday morning when the fire alarm went off, forcing them to evacuate into the parking lot.
Valerie O’Hare, a senior public relations major, said that her initial reaction to hearing the alarm was confusion.
“We evacuated the building and stood outside with everyone else,” O’Hare said. “We were all confused. I was still trying to finish my assignment and then the fire trucks started showing up.”
O’Hare said that Campus Security soon cleared the building and students made it back inside before their 9:10 a.m. classes started.
2. Open Mic Night
Lee’s Student Leadership Council (SLC) in partnership with Inman Street Coffee is presenting Open Mic Night tonight at 7pm on the Ped Mall amphitheater.
The event will feature a lineup of student performances as well as free drinks and snacks provided for all who attend.
3. Labor Day Cookout
In celebration of Labor Day on Monday, First Cumberland Presbyterian Church (FCP) is hosting a free cookout for community members and students. The event will take place at the FCP Community Garden at 11:30 a.m.
According to the FCP website, “It's one of our favorite church events of the year, and everyone is invited.”
More details and directions to the FCP Community Garden can be found on their website.
