LEEWIND: College Alumni Association plans first Thanksgiving Home-Coming!
LEEWIND is a weekly series by the Lee Clarion featuring a story from our archives to celebrate Lee's Centennial.
Nov. 1958—The Lee College Alumni Association is planning its first Thanksgiving Home-coming for Lee College Alumni. Nov. 27, 28, and 29 will be a week end of fun, fellowship, and reminiscing of "ole" days.
A Thanksgiving day luncheon, traditional at "Dear Ole Lee," will be served in the school cafeteria at 11:30 a.m. Special tables will be reserved for visiting alumni. The menu will be as follows: hot roast turkey with dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, candied yams, tossed salad, hot buttered rolls, a variety of delicious pies, and tea, coffee or milk.
"Ole Grads" and the Lee College "All Stars" will compete in a volleyball game in the gymnasium at 1 p.m. Immediately following the volleyball game will be the annual "Punkin" Bowl football game. This is an intramural championship affair between two divisions of Lee College. At 7:30 p.m., Thanksgiving Day, the Lee College School of Music will present a concert of sacred music in the school auditorium. This concert will include numbers by the Lee College Band, the Campus Choir, Touring Choir, Men's Chorus, and Ladies' Chorus.
Friday is designated as "Look the Campus Over" day. You may roam the ole campus at will and reminisce; visit students and the classrooms and chat with your former teachers and the new ones; inspect the grounds and buildings and see the newly-installed bleachers for softball games, the tennis courts which have been resurface and properly fenced, the new student recreation center, the year-round, specially heated swimming pool, and the many other dormitory and building improvements.
The Freshman Class will present its annual play, Nov. 28 and 29. The production for this year is entitled "The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come" and has been referred to as the "Play Perfect!"
This will be the first alumni home-coming with a Thanksgiving theme.
