Hollingsworth Dominates, Lady Flames Finish Non-Conference Play on a High Note

Wednesday night, the Lady Flames soccer team wrapped up non-conference play against Emmanuel College of Franklin Springs, Georgia. While the crowd was not as large as a typical student turnout, parents of players and a few faithful fans came to watch the Lady Flames scorch the Lions by a score of 4-1.
Senior Mia Hollingsworth continued her incredible season by adding on two goals and two assists to her totals for the year. She gave the Lady Flames a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime off of a perfect pass from junior Riley Engels.
The crowd erupted as freshman Lauren Weimer got in on the action and scored her first collegiate goal as a Lady Flame. The Tipp City Ohio native hopes to build on her total and help her team win throughout the season.
“It feels great to get my first goal,” Weimer said to Lee Athletics. “I’m just really excited to get into conference play and fight for the championship.”
Senior Lauren Peters put the game out of reach for the Lions by striking the ball in with 8 minutes to go, giving the Flames a three goal lead with nearly no time to make up the deficit.
While some would look at the end result of the Lady Flame’s performance and mark it a successful match, Peters said she is still determined that the best is yet to come for the Lady Flames.
“We have played better, but we have also played worse,” Peters said. “In the end, we got the win, but we will still keep working hard to play our very best and continue to improve as a team this season.”
The win puts the Lady Flames at a 3-1-1 record for the season while the Lions suffered their first loss of the season to 2-1. Statistically, the Flames dominated in every category, outshooting Emmanuel 29-5 and earning eight corners to the Lions’ one.
The Lady Flames will travel this Sunday to Shorter University in Georgia to compete in their first Gulf South Conference match. They will return to campus on Friday September 21st against Auburn Montgomery.
