Lee to host 2017 summer camps

Lee University hosts a wide variety of summer camps each year hosted by Lee personnel in which community youth can participate.

Individual directors handle each Lee camp. Specific information for each camp can be found below. Registration deadlines vary but some are quickly approaching. For more information or to register, contact camp organizers.

Art Camp

Lee art professors and students teach this creative camp. The cost is $75 per student with a $25 non-refundable deposit. There is a 10 percent discount for each additional child. The fee covers materials and a T-shirt.

Who: Grades 2-5 and grades 6 & up (morning session only)

Session Two

When: June 19-23; 9 a.m.-Noon.

Computer Camp

The game programming camp will allow participants to create their own computer games with the help of camp instructors. They will learn how to create, design, share, and play electronic games.

Music Camp

Music camp is for students who are vocalists and instrumentalists desiring an in-depth study of music.

Five tracks of participation are offered: The Music Lovers Track, The College Prep Track, The Piano Track, The Jazz Track, and The Worship Leader Track.

In each of these tracks, the campers participate in an ensemble, as well as study music theory, history, and private or specialized study in a desired performance area. For residential campers (staying on campus), the cost is $520; non-residential is $350. A $25 registration deposit is due before June 1, and after June 1, the deposit is $50.

Rocket City Science Camp

The excitement that Dr. Jason Robinson brings to the classroom, family science nights, and Super Science Saturdays will continue to impact students this summer with Rocket City Science Camps. The camps are sure to excite young minds and spark creativity and imagination.

Camp Discovery: Slammin’ Science Camp

When: May 29-June 2; 9 a.m.-Noon

Who: Grades 2-4

Camp Explore: STEAM Enrichment Camp

When: May 29-June 2; 1-4 p.m.

Kids Theatre Camp

Elementary students will get a great first taste of theatre with this active and engaging opportunity to be a part of a play. Students will gain self-confidence, poise, and great memories. Lee theatre students and faculty will teach participants.

The camp will culminate in a performance by campers. The cost is $200 per child ($50 discount for siblings) which includes a T-shirt and snacks.

When: June 5-16; 9 a.m.-Noon.

Who: Ages 7-12

Teen Theatre Festival

Young theatre artists will get an audition, rehearsal, and performance experience. All students will be given an onstage or backstage role as they mount a one-act performance in the Buzz Oates Theater.

Lee theatre students and faculty will work closely with the participants to provide hands-on experience in a theatrical production. The cost is $200 per child ($50 discount for siblings).

Summer Honors

This two-week program prepares future college students to face the academic and social challenges of college life. Students will earn six college credits while participating in various activities. The total cost is $980 with a $100 non-refundable deposit. The application deadline is May 1.

Baseball Day Camp 

Conducted by the Lee University baseball staff and players, campers will learn about the stressed fundamentals of hitting, bunting, throwing, defense, and base running. Games will be played each day with instruction. Cost is $115 ($200 for two brothers), which includes a T-shirt.

When: June 12-15; 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Who: Ages 5-15

Baseball Advanced Skills Camp

This camp focuses on the advanced instruction of hitting, pitching, and catching. Each camper will receive instruction as well as participate in the same drills that are given daily to college-level athletes. The cost is $70 for hitting, $55 for pitching, or $115 for both. Each participant will receive a t-shirt.

Bubba Smith Skills & Drills Men's Baseball Camp

The goal of this camp is to provide the basic skills and drills of basketball to campers of all ages and skill levels. In addition to skill development, competitive and fun games will be played. Regardless of skill level, players will receive personal attention and instruction. 

When: June 12-15; 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Who: All ages

Lee Flames Team Camp

The focus of this camp is to provide high school programs quality competition from throughout the Southeast. The camp will provide full-length, stopped-clock games with high school officials from the local association. Each team will receive Lee Flames T-shirts. 

When: June 15-17

Who: Middle and high school junior varsity and varsity teams

Lee Flames Elite Camp

This camp is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors in high school who are serious about playing basketball at the collegiate level. Prospective student-athletes and their families will get to experience the Lee campus, be acquainted with the Flames coaching staff, and play with and against other prospects.

Lady Flames Elite Women's Basketball Camp

This camp is for any rising high school sophomore to senior interested in playing basketball at the collegiate level. The camp will include small group skills sessions, scrimmage games, and NCAA information sessions. This is a chance for high school students to be seen by college coaches. Register by June 24, as space is limited.

When: June 1; 7 a.m. - Midnight

Who: Ages 14-18

Lady Flames Basketball Team Camp

This camp is designed for middle or high school girls’ basketball teams that are interested in scrimmaging against local teams and teams from across the Southeast. Teams will play a requested amount of games per day on Lee’s campus and at various local schools in Cleveland. Teams can commute or stay on campus.

When: June 8-10; 7 a.m.-Midnight

Who: Middle and high school junior varsity and varsity teams

Marty Rowe’s Skills & Drills Camp

This camp is geared toward girls who are interested in improving their basketball skills in a fun environment. Camp will include morning sessions consisting of focused skill work such as defense, shooting, rebounding, and passing. The afternoon session will consist of playing in various games and contests.

Golf Academy

The Lee University Summer Golf Academy is recommended for elementary and middle school-aged students seeking to improve their golf skills. Each golfer will be exposed to the basic techniques of golf that will help them succeed at middle school, high school, and junior events. Regardless of the golfer’s current level of ability, players will receive personal attention and instruction from instructors. The cost is $125 per camper.

Chris Hennessey’s Women’s Soccer Camp

Head coach of the Lady Flames Women’s Soccer Team Chris Hennessey will offer an educational skills camp for women who might be interested in the Lee’s women’s soccer program. In addition to displaying abilities, this camp will serve as an opportunity for feedback from Lee coaches, as well as critique and the implementation of new techniques. The cost is $390 for residential campers and $290 for commuters.

Kay McDaniel Tennis Clinic

Each year, 40 instructors join Kay McDaniel, former professional tennis player, in teaching tennis skills. Not only does she focus on a unique biblical theme and Scripture, but she also shares many inspirational stories from her personal experiences in her journey to the top level in sports. Prizes are given to campers throughout the week with an awards ceremony on the last day. In addition, every participant receives a T-shirt, photograph, and certificate.

When: June 5-9; 8-10 a.m. (girls) or 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (boys)

Softball Skills Camp

Summer Skills Camp is designed to help teach or reinforce skills for the younger softball athlete. The focus is on fundamentals and proper techniques that are building blocks for future success. Daily games and prizes help to create a fun and competitive environment.

Camp ends with the popular Softball Olympics and an award ceremony. The cost is $115 per camper or $100 for multiple children, which includes a T-shirt.

When: June 5-8; 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Who: Ages 5-10

Softball Prospect Camp

Prospect camp offers drills in small group sessions and live game play. Each camper will receive instruction from Lee coaches and players, as well as coaches from other universities around the region. Space is limited and early registration is encouraged. The cost is $150, which includes lunch and a T-shirt.
