East Coast Swing Dance Club seeks members
Whether a beginner or a pro, Lee University’s East Coast Swing Dance Club is a place where all levels of dancers can come and have a good time.
The club meets every Thursday night in the Mayfield Commons from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. Trevor Hodges, the president of the club, begins the night by teaching new dance steps and gradually lets the attendees dance on their own. The environment is upbeat and exciting, drawing students and professors to join in the dance.
“I love watching people realize that they've actually learned how to dance and get out of their inhibitions and just have fun with it,” Hodges said.
The East Coast Swing Dance Club is for anyone who is wanting and willing to learn how to dance. Even if it’s just a one-time visit, the club is welcoming and willing to help beginners.
“The point of the club is to have a good time,” Hodges said, “People of all levels or lack thereof are welcome.”
Since it started a few years ago, people have come to learn how to dance and made new friends along the way.
The club attendance has slowly dwindled over the years, and Hodges has been trying to bring the number back up. Through advertisement and word of mouth, Hodges hopes to draw new people to the club.
The club not only has their weekly meetings, but also attends swing dancing events where the members can put their new skills to work.
If someone is adventurous and willing to try something new, then the swing dance club is a perfect opportunity to take a chance on making new friends and learning how to swing dance, according to Hodges.
