Dan Buck to direct musical improv show in Cleveland
Dan Buck, Assistant Professor of Theatre, will be directing and performing in the upcoming Ocoee Theatre Guild presentation of “I <3 You.”
“I <3 You” is a half scripted, half improvised play starring Buck and Michael De Backer, Lee alumnus and adjunct professor. The show provides a humorous look at the world of online relationships.
Buck, who met his wife on eHarmony.com, described the unique culture of online dating websites that inspired him to create the show.
“There are all these codes. One of the things I noticed was that in profiles or chats women would say, ‘I’m looking for a man who can change the tire on his own car which was code for wanting a man’s man. Although I had a great experience with it, while I was experiencing it, I was like ‘this needs to be made fun of,” Buck said.
De Backer plays a minstrel type character who tells the story of a man looking for love (Buck) on the Internet. As women enter the theatre, they fill out profiles and have their photos taken.
The improvisational portion of the show engages the audience as attendees are asked to give “dating advice” and women are chosen to go on “dates” with Buck’s character.
The play will be running on the weekends of Feb. 11 and Feb. 18 at the Venue Creekside. Tickets are $10 and are available online at ocoeetheatreguild.com and limited tickets will be available at the door.
