Weekend update 9/26
The Lee Flames' various sports teams finished up their weekend with a win and a loss for volleyball, a third place ranking for women's golf, and a win for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
The women of the Volleyball team took a loss this Friday, to the University of West Florida in another away game. Blaire Beamer was the leader for kills Friday, as opposed to the normal killer, Silvia Satori, who was out with a sprained ankle. Beamer had nine kills and the game ended 3-1.
The lady Flames fought off the attacks of Valdosta State University Saturday, taking home a 3-2 win. This is the first Gulf South Conference win of the season for Lee's volleyball team. Satori came back from her injury for a win and 16 kills.
In a conference with 18 teams, the Lee women’s golf team placed third with a total score of 599 over the course of Saturday and Sunday. Lee fell behind Armstrong State and St. Leo, who took home first, at the annual Battle at Old South. Sam Burrus scored the second best round of the day on Sunday with a score of 71. On Saturday, freshman Annika Gino also achieved a score of 71.
The men’s soccer team is on a four game winning streak after a 2-1 match on Saturday. Two minutes into overtime, senior and team captain, Quade Marinell, shot a penalty kick into the net, taking the winning score over Cedarville University. Lee’s freshman goalkeeper was credited with four saves.
With a five game winning streak, the Lady Flames’ soccer team is one win ahead of the men's team. The Lady Flames soccer team had a 5-1 win against Shorter University on Sunday. All five goals were made by seniors Summer Lanter and Kinsey Cichowitz. The Flames’ fourth goal was made entirely by Cichowitz with no assist.
