Weekend Update 10/10
A new Lee record was set Friday, Oct. 7, when junior Seth Eagleson took to the cross country course in Charlotte North Carolina. The men’s team followed him, four of whose members placed in the top nine out of 366 runners. Eagleson set the eight kilometer record at 24:25.7. The previous record was 24:30.0.
Another Lee record was broken for the women in the five kilometer Cross Country race in Charlotte. Junior Audrey Smith ran a time of 17:48.4, breaking the record of 17:45.55 and setting her up with sixth place out of 343.
Another win was put in the books for the Women’s soccer team Friday, Oct. 7, at the Kickin’ it For Kids with Cancer match. Senior Kinsey Chichowitz was the first to put the Flames on the board, followed by Sophomore Lauren Peters, who took a second shot in the 64th minute. The game finished at 4-0.
Sunday, Oct. 9, the women’s soccer team was knocked off their winning streak, after a 1-0 loss from the University of West Florida. West Florida scored in the third minute leaving the Flames to play catch-up. West Florida held possession with 11 shots taken. The Flames had 3.
The men’s soccer team also had a win Friday, Oct. 7, playing against Spring Hill College. Lee’s newest foreign soccer player, junior Jeremy Bonyaa from France, scored his first goal for the team and the first of the match. Sophomore Jose Orellana posted the ball up for freshman Samaan Williams to take the second shot. He then delivered the Flames’ final goal for a 3-1 match.
The men were defeated Sunday, Oct. 9, by West Florida in a close 3-2 match. After an equalizing goal by senior Arturo Rocha the game was sent into overtime, where the Flames lost their chance to get the game back. The match tallied 27 fouls called, making a rough night on the Pitch for the men.
The women’s volleyball team traveled to Mississippi to gain a 3-1 win over Mississippi College.
