Tailgate party celebrates Lee Flames
A tailgate party was held on Lee University's campus in the Pedestrian Mall from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Nov. 4 during Homecoming 2016 for all students, faculty, and alumni and their families in attendance prior to the Flames games later in the afternoon.
The party was put on by a team of eight students in an events management class at Lee. The students had four weeks to plan, budget and implement the Tailgate event.
“All the moving parts are working and it’s good,” said Cody Aulidge, senior at Lee and a member of the class.
This was the first year that the Events Management class was asked to take on this Lee event. The group had to communicate, work together, and implement tactics and strategies learned during class lectures throughout the semester to make this event successful.
The events management team leader Katherine Burney said that their goal was to create an atmosphere that brings excitement to Lee athletics, students and alumni.
To draw attendance for the annual event by having it at a new location on campus, the Pedmall.
The Flame walk started at 11:15 a.m. with the Flames men and women’s basketball team walking through the Pedmall. People showed support and cheered as they got excited for the games to come later in the afternoon.
Every Greek club and Lee club set up a booth along the Pedmall walk. A bounce house for kids, face painting, live band and a DJ, good food and free giveaways were a few things attendees could find at the party.
“Enjoying hot dogs, hamburgers and chili with old friends and new brought back old memories from the past few years at Lee and added new memories,” Nancy Scarborough, Lee senior, said.
