Fall break is just around the corner, and many students are counting down the days until it comes. For most, fall break is a wonderful time of rest and relaxation right in the middle of a hectic semester.
Many students go home to visit their families, tour with musical ensembles and choirs, or take an unplanned road trip with friends. But for those students who will be staying on campus over fall break or live near by, the Cleveland and Chattanooga area offers many opportunities to have some fun without having to travel far.
Beginning October 17 and continuing into early November the Tennessee Aquarium will be holding an exciting event aboard the River Gorge Explorer.
With the purchase of a ticket, one of the aquarium's naturalists will lead a two-hour excursion through 'Tennessee's Grand Canyon' and provide ample opportunity to take in the beautiful fall colors.
'Fall is my favorite season of the entire year. Seeing the leaves change is beautiful. I would absolutely love to do something like this with friends or family,' senior Lee student and Cleveland local Rebecca Miller said.
Also on October 17, Chattanooga will be welcoming the Glo Run. This energetic and upbeat 5K starts at 7:30 pm and goes until 9:30 pm. Each runner is outfitted with glow sticks and black lights as they run to the beat of pop music blasting along the Chattanooga streets. The cost to enter is only $35. And if running isn't your thing, come out and dance as you cheer on the runners.
If you're stuck babysitting this fall break, something that would be fun for the whole family can be found at the Chattanooga Zoo. October 17-18 as well as 24-25 they will be holding the annual 'Boo in the Zoo' event.
Costumes, carnival games, give always, and tons of free candy are just a few reasons to come to this classic Chattanooga event.
'I've been to Boo in the Zoo a few times with my family and we always have fun. I love getting to see my family all dressed up and my cousins go nuts for the candy,' sophomore Kaity Carter said.
Lastly, The Chattanooga Center for Creative Arts will be holding the 2014 Tennessee Dance Festival over Fall Break. Dancers as young as 12 will be holding nightly performances showcasing their talents and skills in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, and many other styles of dance. There is an entry fee, but it is sure to be completely worth the money to watch this talented group of dancers perform.
These are just a few of the many opportunities in the local area to be able to enjoy this fall break. For more going on in Chattanooga and the surrounding areas any time of the year, make sure to check out www.chattanooga fun.com.
