The men’s soccer team defeated Delta State in an overtime thriller on Sunday. After trailing in the first half, the Flames returned to finish off Delta State 3-2.

The Flames headed to the locker room down by a goal at halftime. But in the 49th minute, Tristan Lyle scored a goal to tie it up.

“We were kind of disappointed with our first half performance,” said Lyle. “We wanted to respond well after the coach’s halftime speech.”

Just a few minutes later, Jared Mcwhorter followed with a goal of his own, making the score 2-1. With less than a minute left in the game, Delta State evened the score and sent the game into overtime.

Lee took charge in overtime, scoring within the first minute. Ronaldo McDonald scored on a cross from Tanner Carter just 30 seconds into overtime. The Flames held their 3-2 lead until final time, claiming a victory over Delta State.

The team’s next game is against the University of West Florida on Friday, October 11.
