Lee’s Center for Calling and Career is hosting a career fair on Wednesday, Nov. 13 featuring an assortment of recruiters looking for prospective interns and employees of all majors.

Each semester, the Center for Calling and Career organizes this event so students can find potential opportunities with an employer that will kick-start their careers. Students are given the opportunity to make significant connections with local employers and network throughout the greater Cleveland area.

Assistant Director of Calling and Career Cathy Thompson encourages students to conduct research on the organizations and rehearse what to say before the event and meeting the potential employers. She also suggests students bring copies of resumes and take business cards from recruiters.

Thompson said the primary purpose of this event is helping students find a job, which she believes “is one of college students’ greatest concerns.” She said this fair shows students jobs for all majors in businesses they may not expect.

“A lot of what we do in the Center for Calling and Career is preparing students for either grad school or jobs and helping them navigate the waters to get there,” said Thompson. “So, we set up as many connections and networking possibilities as possible.”

Assistant Professor of Public Relations Dr. Andrea Phillips, who is also attending the event, said students should use the time to make an impression. She noted the possible benefits for later in the spring — a popular time for companies to hire interns.

“That contact might help you to be noticed and recognized if you apply for another job in that company later,” Phillips said.

Another way to make a lasting impression with recruiters is to bring a strong, memorable resume that represents a student’s skills and experiences.

Stephen Carter, a junior business management major and president of Phi Beta Lambda, said a resume should intrigue the recruiter.

Carter also said a resume that is easy to read and outlines an employee’s best experiences will stand out among other applicants.

“A good resume with impact statements shows the interviewer that you have made a difference at the various places you have worked,” Carter said.

There will be several companies represented at the event that are seeking new hires. The recruiters attending are:

  • Acadia Health

  • BenchMark Rehab Partners

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Caraway Conference Center

  • Chattanooga Fellows Program

  • Covenant Transport Solutions

  • Dept of Children’s Services

  • Enterprise Holdings
